Stigma Sucks Sunday: A Recap

Wow, the things I miss by not watching TV! I am seriously considering starting a petition on to get these cretins to apologize to all of us normal people who happen to suffer from mental illness. Anybody on board?

  1. I gave up on Dr. Phil awhile ago!

Even if I did suck on a rock and bark at the moon (and pretty sure I have in my younger days pretending to be a werewolf) just LEAVE ME ALONE! Is it hurting anyone? NO! What does hurt is mocking someone!

  2. ill sign that! count me in.

  3. Beautifully said! I have disliked “Dr Phil” for along time because if his very biased approach to just about everything. I don’t believe that nab has a nice bone in his body.
Well done for speaking out for those who can’t. Susan 😊

His worst, imo, was when he equated vets with ptsd to ‘monsters’

    Great read!

  6. HA!! Dr. Phil, if only…but unfortunately, many people (look at the ratings) believe that this….{hold your tongue now, CL} person is almost a g-d…well, I beg to differ; and now that you mention ONE of his many faux pas, he is not too brilliant now is he? Enlist on anytime, I’m willing and able to sign on anytime!! The face of mental illness? here is a link of the Bell project I was part of last February,..check out the many faces of mental illness there as well. Keep on the amazing work you do on this blog!!! Blessings, CL

Love your post! Dr Phil needs to “get real” himself.

I have schizoaffective disorder, bipolar, and manic depression and I do not suck on rocks thank you. Everyday is a struggle and hearing something like that just makes its harder.

    • Ouch, that sounds like a really huge load to bear. And yes, the outrageous abuse that our society currently tolerates certainly does not make it any better. Take good care of yourself!

  9. count me in. i’ll sign twice! He did a show on a “bipolar” woman a little bit ago. The woman got angry and went off on people like 4 times a day. He called it rapid cycling! really? He totally gave the wrong idea of what bipolar disorder actually is. People don’t cycle in and out of hypomania 4 times a day. made me mad. I don’t watch tv either. stuff like this makes me so glad I only watch netflix!

    • Actually, people can cycle that rapidly, or even more rapidly. I, for instance, cycle so rapidly that I can go from suicidally depressed to elated within minutes. It’s just no fun.

What's your take?
